Loretta is a method based on the inverse problem solving method, which examines the deep brain function based on EEG waves. This method was created by Pascual-Marqui and gradually developed under the title of sLORETA and eLORETA. Loretta neurofeedback is a special type of neurofeedback in which the deep function of the brain is affected by combining neurofeedback and Loretta.
This type of neurofeedback has two major differences from traditional neurofeedback:
- Unlike the traditional neurofeedback, which only gives feedback based on the activity of one electrode, the feedback is based on more channels (at least 19 channels) and based on the deep function of the cerebral cortex.
- Unlike the traditional method where the conditions set for the feedback signal are based on increasing or decreasing predetermined frequencies, in this method, feedback is provided based on the standard deviation of the depth brain activity compared to the average depth activity of the normal community corresponding to the target age group. In other words, the purpose of practicing neurofeedback in this method is to bring the deep function of the brain closer to the deep function of normal society.
Due to the fact that in this type of neurofeedback, more channels are involved during the treatment process, fewer sessions are needed than traditional neurofeedback. Also, more parameters of brain function are affected in this treatment. Unlike traditional methods where the average treatment is usually 40 sessions, in this type of neurofeedback the average number of sessions is reduced to 25 sessions.
The most advanced type of 19-channel neurofeedback, which is considered the newest of this type, is Brain Surfer Neurofeedback. Unlike Loretta neurofeedback, which targets only one deep area, in this method, the disturbance-based deep network is targeted, which includes several deep areas as well as deep connections between areas. This type of neurofeedback is the latest generation of neurofeedback, and although many studies have not been conducted to investigate the type of its function, clinical observations and reports indicate its high effectiveness during a low number of sessions.
Loretta Neurofeedback requires a QEEG device including special hardware and software. For hardware, an EEG device compatible with Neuroguide software is needed, which can record brain waves in accordance with the necessary standards. Having brain wave recording modules with Neuroguide software and Loretta neurofeedback module are among the other things that are included in this hardware and software package.
